I enjoyed a nice walk this morning in Parc Jean-Drapeau, under blue sky and fall foliage! Birdwatching was relatively uneventful (lots of birds, but belonging to the common expected species for October) until I returned to the Métro and saw this BUDGERIGAR hanging out with fellow non-indigenous species at the north station entrance. Please share this post if you know of any groups for lost Montréal pets. This Budgerigar has no problem obtaining food on its own, but I suspect that it will not like what Canadian weather has in store for the upcoming months. It is very skittish, so catching it would be quite a challenge...

While walking around the metro at Jean-Drapeau I spotted a green and yellow budgie. Not sure what sex but clearly an adult, with full flight feathers. I spent about an hour trying to catch them without success. The budgie seems to have taken up with a flock of sparrows that hangs around the metro. Was clearly nervous about me but kept coming back to the metro. If this is your budgie and you catch them, can you let me know? I'm worried about the little thing,

UPDATE/MISE À JOUR

Tous les bénévoles disponibles sont requis pour tenter de capturer cette perruche qui est vu depuis le 18 octobre 2017 à l'entrée nord de la station de métro Jean Drapeau, dans le parc JeanDrapeau. L'oiseau s'est établit avec et mange avec les oiseaux indigènes du secteur, mais ne survivra certes pas à nos hivers québecois.

Saturday October 28, 2017: A Budgerigar continues to be present around the north-facing entrance of Station Jean-Drapeau in Parc Jean-Drapeau (Montréal, Québec). The Budgerigar is flocking with House Sparrows, and is producing a vocalization that sounds much like the House Sparrows. The image shows that this escapee has no problem foraging for food in the wild, however I suspect that it will not like what Canadian weather has in store for the upcoming months.

Juste pour signaler que la perruche est tjrs là, au même endroit, en date du 6 novembre. J’ai tenté de l’attraper/capturer avec de la nourriture, sans succès... Ne s’approche pas et semble suivre le groupe d’oiseaux avec lequel il se tient.
